Advanced Programme in Veterinary Nursing of Zoo and Exotic Species

City & Guilds Accredited


5 Units make up the whole Advanced Programme. However, each course stands alone,
will be certified individually from City & Guilds and is worth 50 hours of CPD.
You can study one course at a time, or enrol for multiple courses.

The 5 courses are:
 
Advanced Programme in Veterinary Nursing of Avian Species
Advanced Programme in Veterinary Nursing of Reptiles and Amphibians
Advanced Programme in Veterinary Nursing of Small Mammals
Advanced Programme in Veterinary Nursing of Wildlife
Advanced Programme in Veterinary Nursing of Zoo Animals 

NO EXAMS!!!!!!
Online assessment which can be completed from any country
Open to Veterinary Nurses in UK, Ireland, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Hong Kong, Scandinavia and many other countries
Open to Veterinary Technicians from USA
You can enrol at any time
2 years to complete each course and the final assessment 

Course goes live 1st April 2018, but you can enrol at any point - no set enrolment dates


Content:

Avian, Reptile/Amphibian, Small mammal and Wildlife courses cover the following subjects:

• Anatomy & Physiology
• Reproduction/Breeding and husbandry
• Nutrition
• Restraint / Handling
• Anaesthesia
• Fluid therapy
• Emergency and Critical Care
• Common diseases and nursing care
The Wildlife course also covers rehabilitation and reintroduction.


The Zoo Course covers a variety of different species including marsupials, primates, cetaceans, giraffes, elephants and many other species of mammals and birds. This course encompasses:

• Anatomy & physiology
• Reproduction/Breeding and husbandry
• Nutrition
• Restraint / Handling / Enclosure design / Management of zoo animals
• Anaesthesia
• The Zoo industry (eg. IUCN, CITES, Legislation), conservation and reintroduction
• Preventative healthcare, common diseases and nursing care



Course material is available to students through a dedicated online platform. On enrolment students will be provided with a password to enable access to moodle. All coursework, supporting material and submission of assignments is carried out through the online platform.
